A Lot of Things
Introduction
■ Book Summary
Everyone is laughing. I’m the only one not laughing. Everything twinkles together like the stars in the night sky, but I am alone. I close my eyes and hear a sound. It says it feels good to be one of many. Together they create things, ride the waves, and hum a song. I keep imagining where my mind takes me. I encounter a big cat swimming. We travel and explore the world together. It’s fun. I want to continue being happy. I’m going to get along with everyone. I love this world with everyone in it!
■ Drawings that show the changing mind
By depicting the changes of a child who walks alone, this book says that we can make the world more beautiful and happier when we are together.
The child tries to look away as she walks toward the flowers and butterflies. She also tries to walk opposite a herd of goats. You can get a glimpse of the psychology of a child who seems to want neither to be understood by nor understand others, yet is still intrigued by them.
Now the child expands her imagination into being with others in the world and then changes her attitude. Through a child’s simple yet clear image, readers can feel the growth of an individual who stops thinking only of herself and changes to be with others.
Additionally, this book has two messages. In the author’s note, she says that this book is not just about the significance of being together; it’s also about supporting those who find it challenging to be with others.
