The extraordinary relevance of George Orwell’s 1984 to today’s Hong Kong provides a literary perspective in the city’s political discourse. The phantom of the Big Brother still haunts the narrative construction of history and imagination. This issue of O-Square reflects related theories and endeavors through the lens of politics, media, arts and literature, further (re)interpreting the contemporary meaning of 1984 in Hong Kong.
