The Complete Works of Lin Chih-hsin
Introduction
Lin Chih-hsin, who was born in the Gueiren District of Tainan in 1936, is one of a number of important post-war Taiwanese artists. He is an outstanding woodcut printmaker, oil painter, ceramist, and sculptor, who has made works which relate deeply to the land where he grew up and has lived his life. Having endured an arduous life in a rural village in his childhood, Lin has turned the experience of hardship into nutrition for his artworks. He specializes in depicting specific moments or events in everyday life, such as folk activities or festivals. His art has played an indispensable role in representing the history and culture of Taiwan.
The Complete Works of Lin Chih-hsin includes Lin’s creations from a variety of artistic disciplines, including prints, oil painting, sculpture, and Koji pottery. Relevant literature pertaining to his personal life and career is also included in the publication, which is divided into three volumes:
Volume One: Printmaking, contains individual monotype prints, either in black and white, oil-based printing, or water-based printing. The prestigious, large-scale print, Celebrating Matsu, is also reproduced in this volume.
Volume Two: Oil Painting and including the supersized Formosa the Beautiful.
Volume Three: Three-dimensional Works and Literature, presenting his sculptures, Koji pottery, colored glaze, Tenmoku glaze, sketches, and historic photographs.
