Boxworld

Introduction

■ Book Summary
There are boxes kept piled up and up. The boxes eventually get higher than any other apartments. Suddenly, boxes speak out ‘Hungry!’ and start eating everything. What would happen to them? And people who are eaten?

■ Let’s Solve this Problem so that People, Earth, and Everything else Coexist Peacefully
Every day we consume an enormous quantity of things. The advent of Internet technologies has helped people consume in more convenient and faster ways. Moreover, the recent pandemic of Covid-19 accelerated this phenomenon. However, have you ever pictured in your mind the earth aching with a mountain of garbage?
This book centers on “box,” a symbolic keyword, which covers timely issues such as overconsumption, garbage, and environment. “Box” can stand for anything that people make, use, and throw away to serve their reckless desires. As the boxes here are personified, the story further expands the set boundaries and is more appealing to the readers.

■ A Fun, Imaginative, and Thought-provoking Picture Book
Despite its serious, heavy theme, the book is meant to be a lively and positive story, with the hope that the readers will find this book interesting and fun, while also discovering “hope” on their own. In order to do so, the writer and illustrator adopted cartoon structures such as split scenes, speech bubbles, and handwriting to make it more approachable and accessible to children.
