The Girls Who Never Arrived

Introduction

A student’s suicide leaves a school in a state of anxiety and grappling with unanswered questions: What happened to her? What was her state of mind? What drove her to take the leap of faith that had ended her 17-year-old life?
As her mentor, Wu Yiguang feels compelled to discover why the young girl had made such a tragic choice. However, her efforts uncover more than clues about the student’s life. She finds revelations about her own struggles with a derelict marriage, a mother she is unable to control, and an aspect of herself she once thought was long gone.
Its voice whispers in her ear, “You wanted so desperately to end your life when you were seventeen. You didn’t! But your student did.”
“I’m sorry. I thought I had survived. But I was wrong.”
