THE COMPLETE DICTIONARY OF MATH

Introduction

Children encounter a wide variety of mathematical situations in their daily lives—figuring out who is taller, who has more marbles, which room is the largest, or who is the fastest. In doing so, they experience mathematics almost without realizing it. They make guesses, reason things out, and solve problems in these everyday contexts. Yet, when it comes to solving problems in a math textbook, they often struggle.
This is often because they only vaguely understand mathematical terms or do not know their precise meanings. As a result, concepts that are simple in themselves can feel difficult. The Complete Dictionary of Math is designed so that, just as we look up words in a language dictionary, students can look up mathematical terms. This helps them figure out how to approach and solve problems while reading math books or working on exercises.
The dictionary organizes math concepts selected and explained by an experienced teacher in alphabetical order, like a regular dictionary. It focuses on terms found in elementary school math textbooks, while also including additional mathematical terms that support a deeper understanding of concepts, even if they are not explicitly in the textbooks.
