Golden Moon Lotus

Introduction

Golden Moon Lotus ( 金月蓮 ) follows the intertwined fates of Jin (Golden, 金 ), Yue (Moon, 月 ), and Lian (Lotus, 蓮 ) through three familial generations. Often likened to a Taiwanese “One Hundred Years of Solitud” this story narrates a cycle of tragic suffering and resilience. Yue, sold repeatedly by her family, has two daughters by the time she reaches sixteen. In her despair, she meets Jin, a disillusioned soldier and brothel customer. Though Jin seeks to save Yue, his own marriage limits him to providing her a modest home without title or stability. Together, they endure struggles and look to secure a better future for their children. The eldest daughter Lian, knowing her parents’ hardships, safeguards her siblings and the family’s memory. Spanning a century, this novel reflects Taiwan’s history in a tender yet unflinchingly honest portrayal of love, resilience, and the passage of time.
