Introduction

In A History of Cats, Charkrienorrathip Sevikul—the author—provides research about love, relationship, and significance of cats in various eras. The author traces back in time and depicts the discovery of the oldest cat cemetery at the burial site of Shillourokambos in Southern Cyprus, cat corpses in a Romanian cemetery, cat mummies in Egypt, and African wildcats. By this manner, the book allows readers to understand the fact about expansion of cat population all over the world, which was on maritime journeys.

Additionally, the author presents stories about cats that are associated with beliefs ang religions. Along with other stories, there are also the stories of beloved cats belonging to well-known figures like Charles Dickens, the great novelist who created world-renowned classics such as Oliver Twist, Tales of Two Cities, and Great Expectation, Mar Twain, an American writer of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, and Ernest Hemingway, a writer awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1954, who also had feline companions.

Apart from that, the book highlights cat-related stories in other numerous aspects not only in historical aspects, but also in the fields of popular culture, society, traditions, traveling, etc.
