[Finalist/Poetry] Last Night I Waded 昨夜涉水

Introduction

—Center on the themes of time and matter and highlight the imprint on today of events now past.

The poems in this collection, all written by the author over three years, center on the themes of time and matter and highlight the imprint on today of events now past. Drawing upon the idea that the memory of the night is steeped in the affairs of yesterday, the author tests the boundaries of poetic art through “wading”. Part 1 (Mirror) plumbs the author’s personal indulgences. Worldly relationships are like a pair of mirrors facing each other, reflecting endlessly back upon one another. Part 2 (For the Unnamed) stimulates dialogue, communication, and thought through poetic form and verse. Part 3 (Wood and the Clouds) records the experience of becoming a stranger by leaving the metropolitan bustle for village quietude. Together, this collection of poems evokes the enduring and meaningful experience of travelers perceiving new places for the first time.
