When Ari, an author who was once—and only once—temporarily famous for one single book, applies for a room in Madam Karavika’s shared house, she doesn’t have any preexisting idea of what kind of tenants are living in this house. There is only one small rule for any would-be tenants: “one must be a writer or work in the publishing scene.” With the low rent to boot, she wastes not a single second to pack up and move in. These tenants that she comes to know later, however, turn out to be sapped of all hope in their lives and are as reclusive as phantoms.
