THE SNAIL RACE
Introduction
It’s a golden autumn day, the sun is turning yellow, and a snail race is taking place in the bushes beside the road. The snails inch towards the finish line as they’ve practiced many times before. It’s tough to tell who will win! As the winner is just about to reach the finish line, he hears a commotion behind him and turns around to see that another snail has fallen over after tripping on a rock. Leaving the finish line behind, the snails turn around as one to help their fallen friend.
For the snails, a friend’s crisis is a moment to stand together in solidarity, not an opportunity to get ahead because they know that it’s much healthier and rewarding to believe in your own progress than to wish for someone else to fail. When their fallen friend gets back up and is ready to race again, the competition begins once more. This is a picture book that offers various perspectives on the values we should strive to uphold.
