A crow with an injured wing retreats deep into the mountains, its body and spirit in tatters. It covers itself completely, hoping no one will recognize it, yet the mountain’s booming voice pierces its blocked ears. “You are a crow. A black, ominous crow. No matter how hard you pretend otherwise, you are who you are—a pitch-black crow.” After sinking into darkness and enduring a long night, the crow hears the voice of a sage. “A crow is not always just black. Touched by the colors of the sky, it can shine gold, purple, or jade.” Embracing the self it once denied, the crow rises and takes flight once more.
